JOHANNESBURG – South African-based analytics and data science firm Business Science Corporation (BSC) has underlined its status as a global technology player, securing a partnership with British-based simulation-software provider Lanner as resellers for Lanner’s WITNESS Horizon simulation technology.
WITNESS Horizon is a powerful, tried-and-tested, world-renowned process-simulation technology that allows clients to build rich models, predictive digital twins and simulation apps, so they can visualise data and test decisions by simulating different business and operational scenarios in a risk-free virtual environment.
Simulation offers clients benefits in three broad applications:
- Diagnostics: Why did actual performance vary from plan?
- Prediction: Given a set of assumptions, what is likely to happen?
- Optimisation: How can an asset be configured to maximise its potential?
The partnership offers vast opportunities for synergies between the two companies in using science and disruptive digital technology to drive greater performance for BSC’s client businesses.
For more than a decade, BSC has provided a powerful financial and operational-modelling capability for clients in mining, manufacturing, telecoms, retail, media and financial services industries across the globe.
“We help clients solve complex problems in a mathematically robust way, so they can make better decisions based on a precise understanding of the past, and an accurate prediction of the future,” said BSC CEO Elton Bondi. “Being appointed a reseller for WITNESS in the region will make us better able to support our clients and help them define and achieve their business objectives more effectively.”
WITNESS will integrate with BSC’s own proprietary reporting analysis and modelling technology to provide solutions to clients through consulting, license, sales training and ongoing support.
WITNESS simulation technology is part of the fourth industrial revolution, enabling the predictive side of business process engineering. It has found application in the global automotive industry, where the technology originated, but is now used in diverse sectors including contact centres, logistics, aerospace and defence.
“Being a WITNESS reseller will also enable us to share institutional knowledge with our partners,” said Bondi. “We look forward to excellent collaboration, which will ultimately benefit our clients, helping them to remove risk from their decision-making and to optimise efficiencies.”
BSC has a proven track record of making a material difference for client businesses, including with mining company BHP in Australia, where they realised savings of $100m through analytics and modelling, and Goldfields, where simulation was used to inform process improvements for the company.
“Simulation is indispensable to modern business,” said Lanner Head of Marketing Graeme Routledge. “Almost every contemporary business can benefit from modelling and simulation to improve their processes and their efficiencies. We’re thrilled to partner with BSC to help bring this vital resource to a wider market and to unlock more client value.”
The Lanner agreement is already concluded and will see BSC using the WITNESS simulation package in their consulting work and acting as official distributors of WITNESS across the Southern Africa region.
